SG Music: The Apex Project – 那一刻 on 知星人

Over 10 years have passed, since Ng Chee Yang 黄智阳 was crowned champion in the first season of Campus Superstar. While the runner-up Teresa Tseng 曾詠霖 (now 曾詠熙) has had successful runs on singing contests in China and Taiwan, Chee Yang has mostly flew under the radar in the region while studying in the Berklee College of Music. What a surprise, then, to see his name emerge in the credits as co-singer and composer of subtheme song 那一刻 in the Mediacorp end-of-year drama 知星人!

SG Music: Tay Kewei x Alfred Sim on When Duty Calls 卫国先锋

Whereas the Ah Boys to Men National Service-themed franchise is catered to heartlander tastes, the Mediacorp Ch 8 drama <When Duty Calls 卫国先锋> is a relationship drama which shines with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) as intriguing subtext. While the latter’s pop-rock theme song《以刚克刚》 by Desmond Ng 黄振隆 and 邱锋泽 is suitably gung-ho, it is 《以为的以为》 which resounds the way subthemes ideally should.

SG Arts: Undertone Exhibition @ iPreciation Gallery

Yesterday saw the conclusion of Undertone, an exhibition at the iPreciation gallery of 3 emerging artists from Singapore: Yeo Tze Yang, Bess Chan, and Goh Jian Hong. As an aspiring creator myself – albeit of a different medium – I wanted to witness the efforts of these artists, two of whom are younger than me. Their works share a liminal quality, perhaps reflective of Singapore’s uncertain position. I feature below one work apiece of the trio:

SG Music: Joanna Dong 董姿彦 on Sing! China 2

Last season, <Sing! China 中国新歌声> – renamed after 4 seasons as <The Voice of China 中国好声音> – kicked off stunningly with Singapore’s Nathan Hartono 向洋. He swept all 4 judges off their feet and finished an eventual 2nd. Incredibly, this season’s first episode again featured a Singaporean: Joanna Dong 董姿彦! Watch her inventive take on 恋曲1990 here:
