Promoting Shared Insight
Opinion pieces are hard to write, especially if one lacks the requisite skills of analysis to produce new ideas and perspectives. I struggle a lot. I become keenly aware, within a day of completion, of a blog post’s estimate merit. Each disappointment makes the next post harder to write. It is now over 3 months since my last analytical piece here.
I’ve learnt to take it in my stride. But I am optimistic for the times ahead, because studying sociology (NUS FASS in 3 months’ time!) will certainly develop critical skills I currently have in short supply. While academic work will restrict my output here, I am confident that the little investments will add up to something significant in time to come. I am certainly in this for the longer haul!
In the meantime, I will rely on others for inspiration. It is much easier to build on someone else’s timely, thought-provoking ideas than to brainstorm from scratch. I find no downside to this approach; you learn faster and lend credit to the work of others. Win-win!
To accentuate the ‘Promote’ theme of this blog, I will predominantly seek local news and commentary sources for inspiration. Alternative or not, I hope we can all work together to produce useful insight for keeping Our Singapore Conversation going.
