Mediacorp Ch 8 Drama Theme Songs of 2018

These days it’s hard to be a celebrity in Singapore. Over the past year, there have been news of Mediacorp celebrities getting engaged or giving birth to children. They include Alfred Sim and Tay Kewei, who have theme songs featured onscreen. Yet instead of returning congratulations, or simply scrolling past, several users repeat the refrain: Who is this? Why is this news?

I don’t think our creators – whether they work in mainstream or indie channels – deserve a grain of such disrespect. It is easy for me to find sociological explanations excusing such behaviour. But I will not comment further, because this only detracts further from those who produce works of greater substance than thoughtless off-the-cuff comments.

Thus, I’m again compiling this list of Mediacorp drama theme songs, with video links wherever I can locate them. I’m giving stars to those which stand out, either personally or thematically. I wouldn’t go further to give ratings, because music is so subjective and there’s really no need to start bickering over such nothings. A third-rate singer or song still did more than its self-righteous critic.

This list will be updated from time to time. All of them are Mediacorp productions, unless stated. They are arranged chronologically, by date of first airing. Here you go!
